An Italian court placed Valentino Bags Lab Srl under judicial administration after uncovering worker exploitation in its supply chain. The company, part of the Valentino brand, subcontracted to Chinese-owned workshops in Italy, where workers endured 24-hour shifts, lived on-site, and operated unsafe machinery.
Valentino Unit Placed Under Judicial Control Over Worker Exploitation in Italy
This marks the fourth such ruling targeting luxury brands like Dior, Armani, and Alviero Martini. The court criticized Valentino for failing to control its suppliers in pursuit of profits. Though Valentino faces no criminal charges, it must now comply with oversight demands. The case underscores systemic labour violations in Italy’s fashion sector, which produces over half of global luxury goods.
One contractor made 4,000 Valentino bags per month at €35–€75 (RM167 – RM358) each, resold for over €2,000 (RM9,500). The company allegedly turned a blind eye to unauthorized subcontracting and exploitation.
