Recently, there is a discourse on TikTok with regards to vanity bags being used as actual clutches/handbags. Some say that it’s inappropriate as the main purpose of the item was meant to carry your toiletries. However, others say that you’ve spent your money on an RM5,000 vanity pouch from brands like Louis Vuitton, thus you should be able to use it as you please.
Using Vanity Bags as Purses
In the comments section, people are severely disagreeing with each other. All over social media, there are talks about “bag etiquettes,” where rules like using a large bag like the Chanel Maxi or Chanel 25 tote for weddings are considered to be inappropriate.
This has been discussed for several years, and some say that using a toiletry pouch as a clutch could be “embarassing” to the wearer. But, in Malaysia, these discussions are generally not a big deal as most people would tend to wear what they’re happy with.
Oddly enough, brands like Louis Vuitton discontinued their toiletry pouches a few years ago. But, in a peculiar turn of events, it seems that they’re re-introducing them again. You can now get a toiletry pouch from them for RM3,300.
It is unclear why people are being policed on what they’re wearing, but for the most part, many would not care what you wear.
