Gua Musang DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) head Shafiq Razak has praised four prominent Malaysian Muslim converts as “the Real Mualaf,” highlighting their non-confrontational approach to Islamic outreach. The figures include Hindu-born Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji, Christian-born Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah, and Buddhist-born Mohd Hussain Yee Abdullah and Ann Wan Seng.
Vinoth or Firdaus
Shafiq’s remarks serve as a rebuke to right-wing groups who celebrate controversial preachers such as Firdaus Wong Wai Hung and Zamri Vinoth, whose aggressive rhetoric has fueled racial and religious tension. In contrast, the four converts he praised have built reputations through scholarship, humanitarian work, and community engagement.
Shah Kirit leads the Global Unity Network, Farid Ravi is rector of Universiti Islam Selangor, Hussain Yee advises the Japan Halal Foundation, and Ann Wan Seng focuses on Islam within the Chinese community. Shafiq emphasized their diligent, respectful dakwah as the true example of Muslim converts.
