After a breakup and two layoffs in 2023, Macie Strum walked away from the traditional version of success she had been chasing. She sublet her apartment, sold her belongings, and spent two years traveling across Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Along the way, she confronted anxiety, connected with fellow travelers, and realized that success didn’t need to follow the “American dream” checklist.

By 2025, she had explored 17 European countries and settled in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now working as a freelance journalist, Strum embraces a life defined by flexibility, purpose, and presence — without a fixed finish line.
