Speculation is mounting that Court of Appeal judge Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, 62, is a leading contender for Malaysia’s next Chief Justice. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is said to have floated his name in recent meetings, reported The Straits Times, citing ruling party sources. Legal circles describe Wan Ahmad Farid as fair and experienced, despite not being a Federal Court judge. A former deputy home minister, he served as a High Court judge from 2019 and is known for high-profile rulings, including the Teoh Beng Hock case probe order. The Conference of Rulers has yet to announce a decision.
