New: Weaponised Myths Threaten Intellectual Integrity, Says DAP MP on Rome Shipbuilding Claims

1 min read

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid has denounced a professor’s claims that ancient Malays taught Romans shipbuilding and Chinese people how to fly through Kung Fu. Calling such pseudo-history “a distortion of truth,” she warned that when history is weaponised, “it not only fools society but divides the people.”

Weaponised Myths

Syerleena said Malaysia faces “a crisis of integrity and of intellectuals” if institutions fail to distinguish fact from fantasy. “In the age of social media, facts are often replaced by emotions,” she cautioned, urging the government to fund authentic research like the Digital National History Initiative to preserve credible records. “History must be based on evidence, not myth, not fantasy,” she concluded.
