KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian singer Winnie Kok, better known as Winnie K, has revealed she lost RM380,000 to a scammer posing as a “Datuk” property developer. The man promised her an exclusive ambassador role for a luxury property project worth up to RM1 million. Kok said she was persuaded to transfer money after he claimed his funds were frozen in Malaysia. Over two weeks, she sent RM380,000 before he disappeared.

Speaking at Wisma MCA, Kok said the funds were meant for her mother’s medical expenses. MCA Public Services head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said similar scams have targeted women and urged victims to seek help. Kok hopes her experience will warn other artistes about fraudulent job offers.
