Wisma Putra says based on preliminary research, allegations that up to 10,000 Malaysians are still in Thailand illegally (PATI) or with expired visas are baseless and the Ministry is confident that the number is much smaller compared to what local media is stating.

Since the implementation of the PKP, the Ministry and Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla have extended assistance to more than 2,439 Malaysian citizens who wished to return home. Consulate General’s record to date shows there are only 72 Malaysian citizens who are registered with the Consulate General and hold a Border Pass. This number is part of the 444 Malaysian citizens who have registered with the Consulate General.

No PATI ?

The media reports say 10,000 Malaysians obtained border passes and were in Thailand before the PKP was announced in March 2020. Malaysians who were still in the coun. try had also obtained help from the consulate to either extend their visas to stay in Thailand during the pandemic or we given support and returned home.
