A woman in China wanted a stylish manicure but noticed cauliflower-like bumps growing on her finger afterward. Concerned, she consulted a dermatologist and was diagnosed with Human papillomavirus (HPV).
Woman Contracts HPV After Manicure
The 22-year-old woman, Miss Wang, explained that the bumps, while painless, slowly grew larger. The infection likely resulted from improperly sterilized manicure tools. A dermatologist warned of cross-infection risks if tools are shared.
HPV can cause warts and, in some cases, cancer, but vaccines can prevent it. The World Health Organization (WHO) advises vaccination and safe practices to avoid HPV. Ensure your nail salon follows hygiene protocols.
