The controversial tariffs executed by President Trump have been both popular and unpopular among social media users. For the most part, those supporting the Democrats are vehemently against them, while those who are MAGA supporters say it’s best to buy American products.
Pricing difference between Made in The US vs Asia
When it comes to the pricing of items however, it seems that consumers are less likely to care for where the items are from.
Forbes states, a pricing experiment by Afina revealed that despite consumer claims of supporting U.S.-made products, high manufacturing costs make domestic goods significantly more expensive. A shower head made in the US priced at $239 failed to sell against an identical $129 imported version, highlighting affordability concerns.
Should retailers place tariff surcharges in cost breakdown?
An X user then asked those who support MAGA if they’d care to explain why Amazon or other retailers shouldn’t include the tariffs in the cost breakdown.
Some users say that these individuals thought the country these goods originate from will be the ones paying said tariffs. However, the opposite is happening as these costs are handed over to the consumers.
Additionally, some Americans say they’re not feeling the negative impacts of the tariffs and that people are overreacting to the whole situation.
MAGA supporters then asked the Democrat supporters, why were the tariffs not included in the price tags prior to this? They added that during Biden’s tenure, inflation was bad and prices went up significantly.
Democrat supporters fought back by saying that during the Biden administration, the whole world was fighting against a pandemic. Supply chains were cut, and almost all other countries in the world were facing similar inflation problems.
