Zabariah Yusof now named acting Court of Appeal president

Federal Court judge Zabariah Yusof has been appointed acting Court of Appeal president following Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim’s retirement on Wednesday. Acting Chief Justice Hasnah Hashim confirmed the appointment under Section 9(3)(a) of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964, allowing a Federal Court judge to assume the role temporarily until filled permanently. Zabariah, who turned 66 in April and received a six-month service extension, is also a member of the Judicial Appointments Commission, appointed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in March. Hasnah, who is herself acting chief justice after Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat’s retirement, notified senior judicial officers of Zabariah’s appointment today.
