Singapore Straits Times was given an exclusive peek into Umno’s strategy to win back the richest state in Malaysia, Selangor and the paper says Min of Finance Tengku Zafrul Aziz will be named the treasurer of BN’s Selangor chapter this Sunday.
The paper says this will allow the former head of CIMB to run for office as the ruling party’s candidate (surely in Selangor) in the country’s upcoming general election, which is scheduled for next year.
For the time being, he has to head to the government’s massive cost-cutting initiative in order for Putrajaya to continue to fund the subsidies that lessen the impact of rising prices and quell discontent against PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration.
