Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the coalition is considering rebranding or forming a new entity due to its 51-year-old constitution requiring unanimous consent for changes, blocking full integration of “Friends of BN” affiliates.
BN Rebranding
Speaking at the Makkal Sakti Party AGM in Butterworth, he said the supreme council will deliberate the move. Zahid praised affiliate leaders’ loyalty and prioritises component parties’ interests in seat negotiations. On MIC, no final decision despite alleged PN application letters; he warned BN may decide if MIC delays. BN currently comprises Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS.
