Zaid Proposes Tengku Maimun as Malaysia’s Next Prime Minister

Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has suggested former chief justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat as Malaysia’s next prime minister, praising her integrity, courage, and clean image. He argued that the opposition should unite behind her as a “unity candidate” to counter claims that there is no credible alternative to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Zaid highlighted her independence in upholding the law and absence of political baggage, saying her leadership would serve as a “reset” for national governance. While acknowledging PAS may hesitate, he believes her candidacy could appeal across political blocs. Tengku Maimun retired in July after six years as chief justice.
