KOTA KINABALU, July 12 — Malaysians will soon have the option to apply for a passport valid for 10 years, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today. The Immigration Department is set to introduce a 50-page passport with a decade-long validity, similar to other Southeast Asian countries.

The 10-year passport will be optional, with an additional cost for more pages. Saifuddin confirmed that studies showed no issues with long-term passports, as seen in countries like the US and UK. Additionally, Malaysians who lose personal identification documents in natural disasters will receive replacements free of charge.
