Anwar Pressures Muhyiddin To Quit

Anwar Ibrahim is putting a lot of pressure on PM Muhyiddin Yassin, urging the latter to resign if he refuses to obey the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s order.

“Muhyiddin must resign if he refuses to obey the Agong’s order to have a parliamentary sitting before the end of the emergency on August 1,” says Anwar.

The Agong declared that parliament needs to convene before the end of the emergency.

He wants the MPs to debate the proclamation and ordinance of the emergency, says Anwar Ibrahim.

“That means, the parliamentary session must be held immediately at short notice,” said the opposition leader who is also PKR president.

Earlier, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Mustafa Billah Shah specifically touched on Article 150 (3) of the Federal Constitution which empowers parliament to revoke emergency proclamations and emergency ordinances if parliament agrees.

Therefore, says Anwar, Parliament speaker Azhar Azizan Harun and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should take immediate steps for a parliamentary sitting.

MAJORITY VIEWS

“I am confident that the Agong is only voicing the views of the majority of MPs and most of the people of this country,” he says.

“(Agong) better understands their (people’s) suffering, their difficulties and is not arrogant.

“Not arrogant as we see the answers after answers from our ministers and leaders, including the attorney general, speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.”
