The fired Prasarana boss Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman says it may be game over for Umno if it leaves PN now.
Tajuddin is heard speaking (date unknown) to Umno’s leadership in a leaked video published by Malaysia Today.
In the beginning, he says no MPs are against the party’s earlier decision to break from PN.
In the video also available on YouTube, he says Umno did not agree to pull support from PM TS Muhyiddin Yassin. “This is different from our original decision,” he is heard saying.
He argues Umno had agreed to pull out from the PN government when the timing is right. But he disagrees that this is the right time to do so. He mentions other leaders, including the Puteri Umno (Women wing) that does not agree to a pullout from PN now.
The reason he gives for the party not to pull out now is the Umno MPs are not ready to face snap elections.
FACTS AND DATA
He says there is no money for MPs to work the ground.
“There are many Parliamentary constituencies that are not ready. Many of the big names have not achieved the minimum to win (in elections).
“The women’s wing leader can also testify there is no money to work the ground,” he says.
“Do we know whether Umno can redress the economic situation and battle COVID-19 if we take power now?” “Will six, seven months be enough?”
He says voters are not getting what the party promised. He reminds the Umno leaders that there is not enough data to show that Umno can win the next elections if it provokes one.
His conclusion is Umno is not in a sound position to just follow rhetorics and pull out from PN. The party risk facing an electoral backlash.
