Kuala Lumpur: Congratulations to Dato’ Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman, President of Wadah Pencerdasan Umat (WADAH) – Movement for An Informed Society.
Born on 21st June 1960 in Selangor, Ahmad Azam is newly elected as Independent Permanent Human Rights Commissioner of The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (IPHRC-OIC) for the 2019- 2022 session.
Ahmad Azam is the Chairman of Global Peace Mission Malaysia (GPM) which he founded in 2001.
GPM is a humanitarian cross-border organisation sending missions to many parts of the world especially to Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The NGO focuses on countries that are in war-torn areas and also those facing natural disasters.
In the international arena, Ahmad Azam is the founding member of the Union of NGOs of The Islamic World (UNIW) when it was established in Istanbul, Turkey in May 2005.
In 2010, in view of the influx of Rohingya refugees, he founded the Rohingya Education Centre, in 2010. The aim is to provide education to the Rohingya refugees.
The State of Penang conferred him the medal in recognition of his long and distinguished work on humanitarian relief globally and human rights advocacy.
