Singapore reimposed Covid-19 restrictions that were eased just days earlier and this has derailed its approach to get Singaporeans to live with the ‘endemic’ Coronavirus.
This has caused frustrations among Singaporeans and they laid it bare on social media.
Some are blaming the situation on a lack of foresight from younger ministers saying they are too risk-averse. They also called out on their policy to abandon the ‘panic button’.
The authorities are now learning that plans to treat COVID-19 like a ‘flu’ once a critical mass of the population is vaccinated are not a good idea.
The lesson should serve the countries in the region, including Malaysia.
The country saw new clusters from fishmongers and patrons of clandestine karaoke bars. It is now forced to roll back its plans for a new normal. With this lesson, it appears COVID-19 cannot be taken lightly.
