Kuala Lumpur: Umno, the party that ruled Malaysia for a straight 61 years before it fell in the 2018 elections has set a new record. It lost power and the government twice in the last four years.
The unprecedented record is a defining moment for Umno because the party left the government divided with a majority of its members apparently supporting then PM Muhyiddin Yassin. Barely a dozen left the Perikatan Nasional regime to declare they are in the opposition.
Will the party be united again to face the prospects of being an opposition group or will some of its members join the new government?
