Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s King Al-Sultan Abdullah has named Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the country’s new prime minister, the palace said in a Friday statement.
Ismail’s appointment marks the return of the United Malaysia National Organisation or UMNO to the premiership, a post that it lost temporarily since 2018. Umno lost the 2018 general elections with Najib at the helm.
