Najib Opts For Recall Elections, Not Anti-Hopping Laws

1 min read

Najib Razak is saying he prefers recall elections instead of an anti-frog law, believing this will be fair to a party that loses an MP to an opposing party.

Recall elections will be held if an MP leaves a party for another in Parliament but an anti-hopping law may not allow an MP to leave the party but elections will not be held to replace the MP.

Former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Azalina Othman Said believes one way of preventing elected representatives from defecting to another party was to hold recall elections under the proposed anti-hopping law.
