Afghanistan No Fly Zone For US Planes

1 min read

U.S. carriers can’t fly over Afghanistan unless they receive authorization, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said Monday, adding they are “prohibited from operating at all altitudes” in the region around Kabul.

The only exception is for the Department of Defense flights, the FAA says. The ban applies to all commercial and U.S. carriers.

The air authority says the move was made because of “the risk posed by extremist/militant activity, lack of risk mitigation capabilities, and disruptions to air traffic services.”
