Rise in COVID-19 cases to delay travel recovery by 90-120 days

1 min read

Several leading U.S. airlines warned Thursday that the rise in COVID-19 cases due to the delta variant is hurting their bookings despite a good start this summer.

They say this surge in covid risk further delay the travel industry’s recovery, hurting hopes that people who were stuck at home for over a year would be able to take a break.

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian says that people are still travelling, but key segments — business and international flyers — are still largely missing.

He says the rise in COVID-19 cases won’t derail the travel recovery but will delay it by 90 to 120 days in the US.
