Noisy, broken mosque loudspeakers are becoming an issue in Jakarta in particular says South China Morning Post which adds that only a few people officially complain because most fear arrest and attacks.

A Jakarta resident, who developed insomnia after enduring the noise for months, says she is too scared to complain because she can be accused of blasphemy.

The Indonesian Mosque Council, which blamed poor acoustics for exacerbating the problem, is offering free service to repair sound systems.
