1 min read

Since January, 367 people in Johor, ranging in age from 20 to 40, were victims of extortion from sexting scams and were blackmailed into paying a ransom.

According to a report in FMT, the losses range from RM500,000 to RM1 million. The scams start with two people getting into sex chats that go on into video chats until they start to reveal their bodies.

The rest can be imagined, with the lovebird caught on camera by a person not seen in the video frame of the scammer and the blackmailers will use these video shots to blackmail the victims into paying ransoms to protect their reputation. Beware, Valentines…WeChat and Michat are said to be the hotbeds for sexting scammers!
