Its the return of the Barisan Nasional, with a massive win in the Johor elections that dominates the news. BN won with a total of 40 seats, above the 38-seat threshold required for a two-thirds majority in the 56-member Johor state assembly.
This marks the return of the Umno (33 seats) MCA (4) and MIC (3). Pakatan Harapan and its allies won a total of 13 seats. Ten seats were won by DAP while PKR, Amanah and Muda won one each. A total debacle for once-powerful opposition entity.
Hasni Mohammad, the Johor BN chairman, is the preferred choice for menteri besar to lead the incoming BN-led state administration. Looks like Undi18 did not have an impact in these polls, but time will tell.
