Singapore drivers risk arrest for not paying their fines before leaving the country but they could also be barred from entering or leaving Malaysia in the process.

The Malaysian police documented 108,757 outstanding summonses involving different traffic offences committed by Singaporeans between 2016 and 2021, according to Mat Kasim Karim, head of the Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement branch, in a statement on Thursday (Apr 7).

Between 2016 and 2021, around 20,000 to 30,000 traffic summonses were unpaid on an annual basis.
