Recently, a netizen posted on Twitter querying a Bonia staff’s video uploaded on Tiktok. The question was: Why are there no Malays or Indians in their offices? As a Malaysian brand, it should be a given to hire a diverse staff at all nukes and corners of a company.
This is also important for a Malaysian company to be as diverse as possible. Especially if they are to use the fact that they are a Malaysian company to drive more sales. It’s apparent that Bonia’s main target audience is Malay, especially during this Hari Raya season.
Some netizens mentioned that the marketing department of Bonia strictly requested Mandarin speakers only. However we cannot confirm if that is the truth or not. Bonia issued an apology for this debacle, however it backfired on them as the Malay community mentioned further on the inequalities.
