What do you do when your river has a bad reputation for being one of the world’s 50 most polluted? You will surely bring in the most modern tech available to collect garbage and that is how the 005 Interceptor (there are two) is working in the Klang River.
Designed by Dutch-based The Ocean Cleanup company, the Interceptor, a 100 per cent solar-powered machine, is a garbage collecting vessel sponsored by the rock band Coldplay and it has been operating near Port Klang since December last year.
Due to the floods that wreaked devastation in numerous regions of Malaysia, notably Selangor last year, the first vessel deployed in Malaysia, the Interceptor 002, is out of operation.
