Behind the ridiculous songs and ludicrous costumes, Eurovision, the world-famous competition has a dark side, which is perhaps unsurprising given the political tensions that often lurk beneath events.
In recent years, the contest has been embroiled in controversy over political anti-protest songs, as well as allegations of drug use and cheating, to name a few. And in 2019, Ukraine withdrew from the selection accusing it of becoming a political tool, embroiled in a political squabble in Russia.
