On Twitter, netizens were commenting on a small percentage of Malay men saying they’d rather date Chinese Malaysian women. A netizen was ranting on the phrase that some would say ‘nak amoi’ and doubts that these girls would even convert to Islam for them.

Amoi Ah

They further claimed that this ‘nak amoi’ preference is a mere fetishzation and in the end they would marry a Malay woman who is already Muslim. Furthermore, the word ‘amoi’ is seen to be a derogatory word for Chinese women in Malaysia.

The origins of this whole mess began with a kid on TikTok stating his dating preferences, and it managed to spark a whole debate on social media. However, at the end of the day it is just a personal dating preference to which all of us are entitled to, as long as it is respectful to both parties.
