If two doctors approve, some Thai sex offenders who are deemed at risk of re-offending will be given the option of receiving testosterone-lowering injections as a form of castration in exchange for a shorter prison sentence.
The Thai Senate unanimously approved a bill that allows some sex offenders to choose such a procedure in exchange for a reduced prison sentence.
This treatment could also be offered to offenders who have already served their sentences or are in rehabilitation to reduce repeat offences while they are monitored for 10 years after receiving it.
