Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor, speaking to the national news agency, says , “As the religion of human nature, Islam does not prohibit entertainment, including humour, as long as it is not excessive.”

This said, he adds that people should not cross the moral and religious lines in their ‘jokes’ in reference to the incident involving the woman who took off her scarf and clothes at the comedy club in TTDI.

The Mufti also called for guidelines to ensure that owners and patrons of comedy clubs do not cross moral and religious lines and he urged Islamic religious authorities, such as Malaysia’s Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), should advise Muslims to keep the religion pure and not make fun of it.
