Najib Razak is now the first ex-PM of Malaysia to go to jail after he failed to recuse the Chief Justice from the SRC appeal today.

This is a historic day for Malaysia where a former DPM, Anwar Ibrahim, was jailed in 1998. Najib is to start serving his 12-year sentencing as of today.

Another bad day for Najib Razak with his bid to remove Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat from hearing the former prime minister’s SRC appeal. This is a series of defeat also for Najib’s new legal team, including lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik.

The question now is whether the legal team representing Najib will decide to mount oral submissions for the former PM’s appeal for acquittal from seven criminal charges linked to RM42 million of funds from SRC International!

After the ruling, Najib sought permission to speak to the panel. Reading from a paper and addressing the panel, he says, “I I feel a fair trial is not accorded to me.’ Clearly he is unhappy he could not remove the Chief Justice from the case.

Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat says that the apex court is prepared to deliver its verdict on Najib Abdul Razak’s main SRC appeal.
