Many Reformasi era supporters were happy to see him praying at Masjid Kampung Baru for his Friday prayers. He gave a speech at that very mosque just a few days before he was thrown into jail. The area was at the centre of the Reformasi cause.

Netizens were happy that Anwar Ibrahim interacted with them, citing that he is the easiest Prime Minister to interact with. There were some that were unhappy with him having bodyguards around but it is the matter of his personal safety.
