As the seaside village of Kampung Forest in Sabah (Sabah Water Village), east Malaysia dealt with the onslaught of the “king tide” phenomenon, another 38 stilt homes collapsed on Sunday night, bringing the total number of houses destroyed to 108.
Given that another occurrence of the high tide phenomenon is anticipated, more homes could be in danger of collapsing.
Sabah Water Village Trouble
According to Sandakan District Police Chief Fuad Malek, the phenomenon caused 70 homes to collapse on Saturday night. An exceptionally high tide is referred to as a king tide.
He told reporters on Monday that there had been no reported casualties and that there were now 684 evacuees at a relief centre.
