Grace Garcia, a California woman, was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer after a cut on her finger — which she got during a manicure at a salon— didn’t heal normally developing a rare form of nail cancer caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).
The nail technician nicked the cuticle of her right ring finger during her manicure and turned out to be a deep cut, said the mother of three who could not remember if the technician used new tools during the service.

“She cut me, and it wasn’t just a normal cuticle cut,” Garcia explained to Today.com. “She cut me deep, and it was the first time this had happened to me. For years and years and years, I’ve been doing (my nails). I was irritated.”
