Hong Kong based Malaysian actress Yumi Wong was fined RM1,000 (Malaysian Ringgit) for consuming durian in her hotel room. Durian is known as the ‘King of Fruits’ in Malaysia, but is banned in certain places like hotels and public transport due to its overpowering scent.

Wong found out about the fine after a hotel staff member sent her a photo of the durian seeds discarded in her hotel room rubbish bin. She was unaware of the ban and posted about the incident on her Instagram story.
She wrote “I’m such an idiot. I wasn’t aware that you can’t eat durians in hotels. I have been fined RM1,000. This durian is so expensive.”
