Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has chosen to re-negotiate the Jana Wibawa program rather than scrapping it altogether, following allegations of financial irregularity.

The program was designed to provide financial relief to Bumiputera contractors in the post-pandemic period, but critics have accused it of unfairly benefiting friendly Chinese-owned companies in Johor.
Anwar has acknowledged the program’s intent to aid Bumiputera contractors but insists that financial regulations must be upheld. He also denied instructing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to specifically investigate former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was recently arrested on corruption charges related to the program.
