Two prominent Malaysian politicians, Lim Kit Siang and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, have expressed differing views on the future of the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. DAP stalwart Lim has recently praised the government and Anwar, while Muhyiddin, who is currently facing multiple charges, predicts the government could be forced out if they continue to attack him. He has previously predicted the government would last for five years but said he is more confident this time. Meanwhile, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has also said he expects the government to fall soon.
Govt Collapse Says Muhyiddin
The only way for Anwar’s government to be toppled is for a coalition like the Barisan Nasional (BN) to leave his government. However, despite some in Bersatu supporting Hadi’s plan to topple the regime, the authorities recently indicted Muhyiddin on multiple charges. To divert attention from his court cases, Muhyiddin is now challenging the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate PKR president Anwar and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over allegations of funds received from businessmen.
Muhyiddin has said that political parties do not profit from the funds they receive, and that members and supporters, including businessmen, contribute funds for their struggle. Anwar has also invited the MACC to probe the PKR if necessary, stating that he will not interfere with the anti-graft agency’s investigations, even if they involve his own party. Overall, the PM has expressed no issues with the anti-graft agency investigating the PKR and has instructed the body to conduct its duties when necessary.
