Residents in Kampung Iboi, Johor, who lost their homes in last year’s debris flood are looking forward to a more meaningful Ramadan this year. After almost nine months of renting, some cannot wait to move into their new homes, while others expressed gratitude for the progress made in constructing new homes for them.

Among them is Maznah Awang, a 74-year-old single mother who lost her home and five of her children’s homes in the flood. She said that she was unable to describe her feelings because she was overwhelmed with happiness to see her new home almost complete.
The state government had promised to build 12 flood victim homes in Desa KEDA Kampung Sadek, Baling, and despite experiencing delays in construction, the new homes are now almost ready, bringing hope and relief to the affected residents.
