In Malaysia, many are thrilled to attend the bazaar Ramadan every year, as it happens only during the fasting period. Generally, these bazaars are known for offering a unique experience to their shoppers. Some also look for the bargains they might get at these locations.
Convenience stores more convenient?
A netizen states that he simply wanted a Soya drink that is chilled. When at the bazaar, he noticed the drinks there are overpriced, at RM6 a cup, with a side of melted ice. Later, he went to a Speedmart, which is a chain of affordable supermarkets where he purchased a litre’s worth for only RM2.09.
Another netizen cites that he bought a drink at a bazaar, only for him to realise after break-fast that it tastes like plain water. The drink costs RM5. Some are even asking about the prices of local delicacies costing more than what a restaurant offers.
However, some netizens may have the answer to the ridiculous prices of these bazaar Ramadans. Unfortunately, since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, rent has increased significantly. Thus, forcing the sellers to increase their prices drastically. In contrast, convenience stores tend to buy their items in bulk, hence the more affordable prices.
