The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on sleep quality, with 40 percent of individuals experiencing sleep difficulties during the pandemic and 31 percent suffering from sleep disturbances after COVID. A report in the Asian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences reveals that nine out of 10 Malaysians experience insomnia and other sleep problems.
Malaysians struggling with sleep
A significant number of Malaysians struggle with sleep disorders, with over 53 percent of the workforce sleeping for a minimum of seven hours per day, and at least 51 percent experiencing work-related stress. Factors such as child care, lifestyle, poor sleep conditions, and mental health issues contribute to sleep deprivation. To achieve quality sleep, certified nutritionist Dr. Choo Hao Jian suggests a balanced diet, healthy activities at home, and practising the circadian rhythm.

Sleep education is increasingly crucial, as sleep disturbances can lead to various chronic problems, including degenerative diseases.
