With 14 Malay-majority constituencies in Penang, the absence of a strong Malay component could pose challenges for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition while the charges against PN leaders may have increased Malay support for TS Muhyiddin Yassin.
IF political sentiments and voting patterns remain unchanged, political observers predict that the PN coalition may have the upper hand in these seats. PH currently holds 11 of the 14 Malay seats in Penang, while Umno and PAS hold two and one seat, respectively. An indication is the defeat of Nurul Izzah Anwar in the Permatang Paul, a family stronghold, in the 2022 elections.
Malay Penang Seats For PN?
Despite charges against PN leaders, such as Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, support for the federal opposition is unlikely to be affected. However, food distribution *menu rahmah – during the electoral campaign (state elections) might affect sentiments in the Malay majority Penang seats.
