Rap artist, Prakazrel ‘Pras Michel’, claims he was paid $20 million by a business associate of Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, in order to take a photo with former US President Barack Obama. The Fugees group member testified in court to defend himself against charges of criminal conspiracy, lobbying for foreign nations, and accepting campaign payments in collusion with Jho Low to influence the Obama and Trump administrations.
Jho Low used public funds for photo ops with world leaders?
Michel stated in court that Jho Low, who is accused of misappropriating $4.5 billion from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), did not direct him to make campaign donations in exchange for the photo. Michel admitted to using some of the money to bring three friends to a dinner fundraiser for Obama, each paying $40,000, claiming he did not realize it was illegal. Michel denied the allegations and openly testified in court, describing Jho Low’s payments as “free money.”
Michel is accused of conspiring with the accused in three schemes, allegedly receiving millions of dollars. The first charge accuses Michel of violating Federal Election Law by funneling around $2 million from Jho Low to Obama’s campaign in 2012, falsely representing the source of the donations. Michel is also accused of attempting to influence the Trump-era Department of Justice to halt civil and criminal investigations related to the 1MDB scandal involving Jho Low.
