Manchester City has submitted a planning application to expand the capacity of the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000, along with the addition of a hotel and museum. The proposed plans include the addition of around 7,000 new seats to the stadium by expanding the north stand with a larger upper tier.
Manchester City’s grand plans for the future
This is following a different design from the 2015 expansion of the south stand. The Etihad Stadium was recently included in the list of venues that would host matches if the joint bid by the UK and Ireland for organizing Euro 2028 is successful, with a planned new capacity of 61,000. The plans also feature a covered fan zone, a new club shop, museum, and a 400-bed hotel integrated into the stadium behind the north stand.
The estimated timeline for completion of the plans is up to three years as part of a £300m investment in east Manchester. City’s managing director of operations, Danny Wilson, expressed gratitude to the fans and local community for their input and stated that the proposals aim to deliver long-term economic and social opportunities in the region, building on the regeneration work carried out by City Football Group since 2008.
