After his defeat in the previous general election and subsequent expulsion from UMNO, Khairy Jamaluddin’s next steps have remained a puzzle.
However, the former Health Minister has decided to remain independent for the time being but will actively campaign for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming state election.

During a recent meeting, Khairy conveyed this decision to PN Chairman and President Muhyiddin Yassin, who reportedly accepted it. Speculation arose that Khairy may also be offered a high-ranking position within Bersatu, as efforts are made to attract him to the party. While the meeting between Muhyiddin and Khairy ended positively, there is no confirmation regarding specific positions.
Khairy’s expulsion from UMNO earlier this year, as part of the party’s crackdown on dissenters, has opened up possibilities for his political future, with offers from various parties on the table.
Netizens are stating that he should align himself with the party that is obviously going to lose, which is Perikatan Nasional. However, Pakatan Harapan should not sleep on the opposition party as they too have strong momentum and supporters. Khairy’s support towards them could potentially help the opposition gain supporters.
However, as we have seen in the last election, for politicians in Malaysian politics, they are as good as the party. Once they’ve decided to leave one party and be independent, their support ratings will significantly drop, case in point, Datuk Zuraida binti Kamaruddin.
