Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has expressed concerns about Malaysia missing out on economic opportunities due to obstacles faced by concert organizers. He highlighted the example of British band Coldplay, who held a six-day tour in Singapore while facing difficulties in organizing concerts in Malaysia.
SADDIQ’s CONCERNS
Syed Saddiq estimated that Singapore could have generated an average of RM180 million in ticket sales for all six shows, with Malaysians potentially attending the concerts across the border. Airlines could have collected around RM350,000 for round-trip flights from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore if 1,000 Malaysians attended the concert.
Economic Lottery
Additionally, considering expenses on travel and leisure, 1,000 tourists spending RM500 a day would bring in RM500,000. Over six days, this could amount to RM3 million. Syed Saddiq emphasized that Malaysia used to host a significant number of concerts annually. But increasing obstacles and complaints have made it challenging for organizers and Malaysia missing on an economic Lottery.
