Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has withdrawn his appeal to obtain banking information from the family of ex-central bank governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz. His lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, informed the Federal Court of the decision.

The documents were sought to strengthen Najib Razak’s defense in the corruption case involving the 1MDB state investment fund. The three-judge panel, led by Court of Appeal President Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, including Chief Judge of Malaya Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah and Federal Court Judge Zabariah Mohd Yusof, had the appeal dismissed as the deputy public prosecutor did not oppose the withdrawal.
Previously, Najib Razak’s request for the documents was denied by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. During the trial, concerns were raised about the potential compromise of Bank Negara’s supervision by Zeti’s family, allegedly linked to payments from individuals associated with fugitive Jho Low.
